This weekend I went to the Boulevard of Dreams Green Living Show Home here in Kansas City. The home was gorgeous, especially the dining room. What initally caught my attention was the groin vault ceiling that had some sort of metallic finish and the fact that the chandelier was the same as what I have in my dining room. However, what really took my breath were the two dining end chairs. The chairs had a blackish distressed finish with crocodile embossed leather seat and back cushion with nailhead trim. What was really unique was the animal hide on back of the chairs. The hide was shaved in areas, making an interesting pattern on the back. This was because the hair on the hide was light in color and the hide skin itself was dark, so the shaved areas were dark pops of color against the lighter hair. The chairs had ornate carved detailing along the top and the chair base. I think they were spectacular.

I have recently seen a lot of furniture and accessories that have animal print fabric, animal hide and animal patterned embossed leather. Here are some chairs with an interesting use of animal print fabrics or animal pattern embossed leather...
Pair of the wing backs... look at the gorgeous eglomise panels (by John Richards) on top of the chest.
Animal hide on chair back...
Cheetah, giraffe and tiger fabric...
Accessories....
Tables and ottomans...
The zebra print ottomans paired with a desk which legs look like a spider.
Love the chippy black finish.
Oh! My! God!!! Shut the front door because I am going to scream! I love them! That round table/ottoman is spectacular! Where did you shoot these pics at? Where is this tour at? Why wasn't I with you????? Fabulous! Magnificent! Stunning! Glorious! Splendid, OK that should be enough synonyms to get the point across.

I almost bought that chaise but was worried about the space I was trying to get it in. It is huge! Love the animal prints and hides. Have enjoyed following your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, Lori! And I'm drooling over those pieces. Is it the same store you bought your new sofas? I especially loved the Bergere chairs and the leather chair with ottoman in the 15th picture. It said 50% off...and $824. I wonder if $824 is the sale price...I wonder if they ship. It's exactly what I've been looking for for my family room. Finally, I must figure out how to replicate the black chippy finish on that desk! What a neat store. We have nothing like that here.
ReplyDeleteOh. I just saw that there was a 1 in front of the 8. I thought it sounded too cheap for what it is!
ReplyDeleteYes these are certainly spectacular! I love how it all comes together, almost like a Safari Lodge for the Vanderbilts! Very very cool. Just make your Christmas list Lori and tell hubs you only have one thing on it (a pair of chairs!)
ReplyDeleteHa, ha Amy... I think putting the chairs on my Christmas list is the thing to do. Christa, I actually bought the leather chair and ottoman a few months ago (it was an older picture).
ReplyDeleteLori,
ReplyDeleteLove your post, the furniture is totally amazing. You always have such unique places to shop. I especially like the mirrored pieces, wonder if that could be a DIY project, I know of ways to make mirror look old.
Thanks for your posts, they are very enjoyable.
