This week, Kim at Savvy Southern Style and Rhoda at Southern Hospitality are having link parties for everyone to share their best projects or favorite makeovers of the year. How great is that?! I guarantee there are going to be some great things to view. I am going to join and list my fav five.
I have two favorite furniture re-do projects. The first is this sideboard, that started out as a cherry stained piece with veneer that had yellowed. Here is the before....
and this is after I painted it, applied a metallic glaze and gave the hardware a new finish.
My next favorite furniture re-do was of an old oak table that had an Early American stained finish that had yellowed terribly. Here is an "in progress" before pic as I had already had started on the table top...
This is after I painted it black and applied metallic highlights...
Plus chairs....
My last three favorite projects have to do with specific room improvements. The first room is the hearth room in my kitchen. Here is the before with a sofa from my previous home...
and here is the room after I picked out an area rug, coffee table and sofa...
Each pillow is reversible...
Another favorite room project in progress is my great room. I chose two identical sofas for the space...
The sofas have reversible pillows...
allowing different looks.
My last favorite project is my still unfinished dining room. I love the mirrored eglomise console table I put in the niche...
and the end chairs I found this fall..
.
and in place.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and looking forward to 2011!

Great Room Sofas
Here are the sofas.
This is a pic of the sofas together. One of the reason I chose these frames is because of the curved shape of the backs. I have them pushed back because I still need to get a coffee table.
I love this peacock fabric... my husband, not so much. On the other side of the peacock pillows I have a brown embossed silk to tone things down when my husband has had enough of the birds.
Some of the other pillows.
This is the distressed leather that is on the back rest and inside the arms.
Close up of the nail head trim that goes around the sofas and up the arms...
Side view (not a very good pic), sgowing the striae in the frame fabric...
Tassles....
Here's a better look at the finials.
Here is a close up of the printed damask seat cushion fabric. The seat cushions are reversible, the other sides have the brown straie fabric that is on the frame of the sofas.
All the pillows are reversible in that they have different fabrics on each side. Here are some different looks.
With more leopard fabric showing (pic dark because it was taken at night)...
A mix of all of the fabrics, except the peacock fabric....
Woops, peacock on the left, upside down... I'm too lazy to take another pic.
I still need to get a coffee table and some other accent pieces to finish the room. I also want to do something with the ceiling and am thinking of doing some window treatments, probably something hanging from rods at ceiling height.

Working on the Great Room
Here is my great room…
This is the area rug for the room...
As for furniture, I decided to go with two facing sofas. I found a sofa... I like the camel back curve of the frame.
I didn't care for the fabrics on the sofa so I decided to do a custom order and pick some different fabrics. I also decided to go with a larger frame, add some pillows and have finials on the back corners of the frame with hanging tassels. I chose seven fabrics, a distressed leather and four different pillow trims. I also went with nailhead trim to run around the frame. Below LEFT is the fabric I chose for the frame (brown striae fabric, not the solid chocolate sample on the right).
This is the damask pattern I chose for one side of the seat cushion and the seat boxing (the other side of the seat cushion is the brown striae frame fabric).
Below is the seat cushion fabric with the brown frame fabric.
This is the distressed leather that goes on the inside of the sofa (back rest and inside of arms... very bad picture).
And the rest of the pillow fabrics….
My husband is not a fan of this peacock fabric... I put a different fabric on the other side of the peacock pillows in case my husband can't tolerate the birds. The fabric is very pretty in real life.
These are the pillow trims.
