One of the first things I chose were this this black mirror and console table for the niche.
The console is a mirrored eglomise piece. It is pretty in real life, but hard to photograph due to its reflective qualities.
Here is the top of the table(with reflection of the wall mirror).
Great lines on the legs and base…
... claw feet.
I had a difficult time finding a dining set I liked. I purchased this set as a "pressure" buy... we were having a dinner party and I didn't have a table. I liked it for all of two weeks. The only good thing is that I got it at 40 % off.
Next I chose an area rug...
I purchased thsi pair of lamps for another room but decided to place them in the dining room on the console table.
Here they are on the the console table.
My most recent purchase, posted about here, is this pair of leather and animal hide end chairs.
The animal hide on the backs are shaved in areas that create patterns.
The seat and chair back have croc emobossed leather, which you can see on this close-up.
Here are the chairs at the dining table. Since the patterns on the back of the chairs aren't identical, I placed the chairs at the ends of the table, then switched them to see which one had the pattern I wanted to face out to the main floor.
Pattern One:
.... Pattern Two.
I think I like this one the best. I placed the upholstered arm chairs in the middle position on each side. I like the fact that the set doesn't seem matchy-matchy now.

I'm loving your changes. Of course, I love your new chairs, but I also really like how you moved the previous end chairs to the middle of the table. It's perfect - not too much, but a little bit more interest. I'd like to add more interest to our ceiling, too, but am having a hard time deciding. I'm eager to see what you decide to do!
ReplyDeleteI love what you're doing here. The end chairs are fabulous, and I love the pattern on the dining table. You couldn't have asked for a better mirror and console for that niche.
ReplyDeleteI love coordinating paint colors with fabrics/rugs. Can't make a recommendation without seeing the space in person, but I'd definitely paint the niche different than the walls (whether it's a completely different color all together, or a lighter/darker variation of the color you choose for the room).
I like your style, and you definitely are doing well with the over all scale of the pieces you've chosen.

I love your dining room. That console table oh my! You had to have those chairs to go in there no matter how many birthdays they count for! Thanks for linking up!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori! Wow! What a beautiful dining room you have and you've made wonderful elegant choices on your furniture. I love everything you've chosen. The rug is so perfect and those chairs! Whoo...they're gorgeous!
ReplyDeletebe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Wish I had some words of wisdom but I'm in the same predicament with my dining room (just on a much less grand scale!) When you get tired of those animal hide chairs, feel free to just ship them on down here.
ReplyDeleteI simply love what you did with those chairs
ReplyDeleteOh my! You would never know that you have a hard time making decorating decisions because everything you choose is GORGEOUS! The chairs are fabulous and I still can't get over the light fixtures, especially the one over the table with the ceiling detail above it. I agree that you could really get away with doing something fun with paint in that space and it would accentuate all of those details even more! I have a Linky Party every Friday and would love to have you join in the fun sometime! :-)

Go to Boulevard Interior Design Blog-every Friday she features a column called, "Free Advice Friday". You can send her your pictures and ask her the questions and she'll post the solution with her interior design software so you can see how it looks.
ReplyDeleteJust off the top of my head, and I can't see it very well from the photos, but have you ever thought about swapping the foyer chandelier and the dining room chandelier. The foyer chandelier has more "weight" to it and seems like it would compliment the table. You could then place the crystal type chandelier in the foyer.
You have a great eye. That console table is amazing. just amazing. Will be following you along to see everything progress!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dining room! That console table and mirror are to die for... I just love them!! I also really love that dining table with the scroll on top and the chairs you added to them.
ReplyDeleteYou have such an awesome ceiling in there with so much potential (and the niche too!). I immediately thought of my aunt Mary who is an artist specializing in faux finishes. Her website is http://www.fauxbiz.com/Home.html, there are lots of ideas in her image gallery and she will travel if the job is big enough.
Sorry, I'm not trying to be a salesperson for her, but maybe you can get some ideas from the pics of her work. :)
And of course, thanks for linking my Flaunt it Friday party. Have a great weekend! :)
Stunning! I am very impressed--that is one gorgeous space even without furniture in it. You did a great job.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, love the console table! the top of the table has a wonderful aged look and blends beautifully with the mirror above. GEORGOUS!
ReplyDeleteIn the circle of your ceiling, could you do a faux finish with a stencil similar to your table top and then the smaller square with a slight different color than the circle.
One of the tour home's had an arched window, as yours, and they had the drapery attached with rosette's, from the side of the arched trim.
The room now is spectacular, so whatever you decide, with your talent will be striking!
That dining room is gorgeous! What exquisite taste you have!!~
ReplyDeleteMy Goodness Lori,
ReplyDeleteI just am drooling over your incredibly gorgeous space!! Oh to have a grand formal dining room like yours!!! Love it! I love the mirrored console and the chairs look beautiful as you have them placed at your table. Have you considered a silver leaf or metallic finish in your coved ceiling? Or I do like the idea of a faux painted technique- It kind of depends on what look you are going for and your overall decorating style. What ever you decide will be magnificent I am sure!! Thank you so much for sharing at Feathered Nest Friday! :)
Hi Lori! Thanks so much for linking up this gorgeousness to the party! :-)

Wow! What a beautiful room! You've got a great eye for design.
ReplyDeleteWhen we build our new house that's the kind of dining room I want!
Ahhh, so glad you linked this, my dear friend.
ReplyDeleteWhen do I move in?
Finally, I'm back online! Sorry friend!
ReplyDeleteLori,
This room is amazing! Your mirror is just gorgeous, and that mirrored table is, well, FABULOUS!!!! I think your dining room table is absolutely beautiful. Those top scrolls are so elegant and way too pretty for a tablecloth. The pedestals on this table-LOVE them! As far as suggestions go I only have one (this from a woman who has an entire house to decorate and can't make any of her own decisions...) the inset wall where you have the mirror, this wall would look beautiful in something like a metallic lusterstone in the same color family as your wall paints. You already have this room a few shades darker than your hallway area and the ceiling is also color varied. I think if you hit any of these walls with a different shade of color you will chop up the visual lines you have already established in the house. I would wait until you have fully decorated the rest of this floor before making any decisions because right now your seeing too many blank areas and once it gets filled up with furniture & other stuff you will fall back in love with the warm tone-on-tone look you've created. I would also rethink curtains! That window is just beautiful and I love the clean open view that compliments your beautiful open floor plan and that back panel of windows that lead out to your porch. Whatever you choose to do will be wonderful because you have impeccable taste!
OOOOOH LALA!!! That mirrored piece is fabulicious! I'm in awe.
ReplyDeleteLori, I am sorry I must have missed this post as I have been busy moving. Quickly I wanted to say these things as I have to dash again: I love the chairs with your set, they have the same lines in the frame and they are fab. I would not repaint a lighter color. What about painting a wide stripe with a clear poly to create some shimmer and drama and then paint the ceiling in a metallic silver..BM makes a nice pearlized paint. This would tie in the mirrored console too. I would like to go over this with more time but I have to run!! Argh. It looks lovely Lori!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dining room, Lori! I am crazy for your console table! Gorgeous! Love the mirror too! Your chairs are very unique and uber fab! Great find!
ReplyDeleteCheers!

Hi Lori, thanks for stopping by my cyber home. I love your rooms and decor. Everything is very classy. I can't wait to do that to our future home. I love that you also have Dobies. Perhaps you can make them a page? Talk to you later,

Your dining room is looking wonderful. I do have an idea for the ceiling that would carry the Metallic/reflective quality to the ceiling. I think you should silver leaf it!
