The END CHAIRS

A few weeks ago I went to the Boulevard of Dreams Green Living Show Home here in Kansas City and saw a gorgeous pair of end chairs. I became knew I had to have them and after a few weeks of pressure and negotiation with my husband (the chairs “count” for Christmas and my next birthday present), I secured them. I also have to give credit to Nancy (Fun with Nancy) for this victory. She is not only my friend, but is also my husband’s friend, and she was instrumental in breaking him down. Thanks, Nancy!!  I picked them up today….

I think they are spectacular. The chairs have a black distressed finish with crocodile embossed leather seat and back cushion and nailhead trim.

Here is a close up of the croc embossed leather.

What is really unique is the animal hide on back of the chairs. The hide is shaved in areas, making an interesting pattern. This is because the hair on the hide is light and the hide skin itself is dark, so the shaved areas are dark pops of color against the lighter hair. The hide patterns are not identical.

Here is one…

this is the other.

Here the difference in pattern is seen when they are side by side.

Close ups of the hide...

Here is the carved detailing along the top….

and the chair base.

I'm sure these chairs aren’t for everybody, but they are good for me. :)

  1. They are spectacular! I don't know what I love more, the unbelievably beautiful woodwork, or the fabulous wood finish. I am head over heels in love with the hide and the pattern is crazy gorgeous! As for the crocodile leather and color, I don't know enough adjectives to describe how stunning they are! I am so happy for you! They are going to be so beautiful in your home. I'll be moving in soon! Sorry, I just happen to love your house so much more than mine!!!

  6. Lori,

First of all, kudos to your amazing bargaining skills! (And Nancy's.) I don't know where to begin on those gorgeous chairs. The finish is my absolute favorite, as you know. The carvings are spectacular. I love the crocodile embossed leather seat and back. And the animal hide on the other side...wow. What a perfect addition to your dining room, and I'm looking forward to seeing it in there. I love things that aren't matchy-matchy, and this will really set off the whole set so that room just sings! Does hubby love them, too?

  7. Courtney... Yeah, Nancy is seriously funny and it's great to have a such a good friend that has your back.

Thanks, Christa... I am with you on liking things that aren't matchy-matchy. In fact, I like my dining room set a lot better now because of that aspect. And yes, thank goodness, my husband actually likes them. :)

  15. These chairs are so unique - I love the height of the backs - what a great style. They may not be for everyone, but that is what makes them all the more special.
