Working on the Great Room

Here is my great room…

This is the area rug for the room...

As for furniture, I decided to go with two facing sofas. I found a sofa... I like the camel back curve of the frame.

I didn't care for the fabrics on the sofa so I decided to do a custom order and pick some different fabrics. I also decided to go with a larger frame, add some pillows and have finials on the back corners of the frame with hanging tassels. I chose seven fabrics, a distressed leather and four different pillow trims. I also went with nailhead trim to run around the frame. Below LEFT is the fabric I chose for the frame (brown striae fabric, not the solid chocolate sample on the right).
This is the damask pattern I chose for one side of the seat cushion and the seat boxing (the other side of the seat cushion is the brown striae frame fabric).

Below is the seat cushion fabric with the brown frame fabric.

This is the distressed leather that goes on the inside of the sofa (back rest and inside of arms... very bad picture).

And the rest of the pillow fabrics….

My husband is not a fan of this peacock fabric... I put a different fabric on the other side of the peacock pillows in case my husband can't tolerate the birds. The fabric is very pretty in real life.

These are the pillow trims.
I spent a lot of time picking out the materials for the sofas and was initially confident in my choices... up until I placed the order. I am having doubts about some of my fabric selections and am hoping I didn’t mix too many fabrics .They are going to be delivered tomorrow and I hope it isn’t going to be one of those “what the hell have I done” moments.

  4. That is going to be beautiful! I can't wait to see how it all looks together. The fabrics have that plush and rich look. I love the mix and match look instead of some solid design. Very whimsical and custom.

  5. Actually, I think you did a great job with the fabric selections. I'm sure they'll look great together. If not, different pillows can completely transform a sofa. I'm so eager to see your next post!

I had two facing sofas in one of my homes. Loved the look - sorry I can't pull it off in my new house.

    Happy decorating :)

  9. I LOVE your fabric choices, Lori. I can't wait to see it all put together. I like that you added a little something unexpected for the pillows rather than playing it safe and doing the matchy-matchy thing.

  18. I can't wait to see it all come together. All the things that you are doing right now (picking fabric, rugs, etc.) are the things that I call fun things. I love doing all the detail things. It will all come together and will look beautiful.

  19. Lori, It is hard not to second guess yourself once you have made the purchase... it is for real then and you can't take it back.
But be CONFIDENT! Your sense of style and taste is elegent and very clasic. You cannot go wrong with that! It looks like you made some wonderful choices in investment pieces- they should give a backbone and backdrop to all your other pieces and accessories.

I think they are all so beautiful and look forwared to see what you will do to add the finishing touches to your room.
